This release marks the beginning of a new ongoing project—a larger, planned series of musical experiments centered around Tarot cards.
Tarot Tapes are a collection of mixtape-style EPs that will serve as demo versions of the tracks in the final full-length Tarot LP. There are a total of 26 planned volumes of 3 tracks that may eventually appear in more polished form on the finished release. These EPs are not just previews—they're complete experiences in their own right, shaped by intuition, research, experimentation, and the symbolic structure of tarot.
Each volume in this series is inspired by a three-card tarot reading. The reading serves as both a creative constraint and a guide for the stylistic choices for the piece of music. Every EP opens with a piece based on a Major Arcana card, followed by two tracks tied to Minor Arcana cards. The cards chosen for each release influence the tone, structure, and emotional palette of the music. The series leans toward an impressionistic style of electronic music—moody, textural, and intuitive rather than rigid or overtly structured.
This proof of concept 'Volume 0' edition begins with the following trio of cards:
- (0) The Fool – representing fresh starts, open-minded exploration, and the gumption and foolhardiness to leap before looking into something new without a clear roadmap.
- Eight of Pentacles – steady hands and quiet repetition, developing something new and real over time. In the second movement, the foundation cracks—echoing the reversed card’s themes of fatigue, creative block, and the frustration of work that leads to nowhere.
- Three of Swords – the sharp pain of heartbreak, betrayal, and the anger that often follows. It’s a card that exposes emotional wounds and marks the moments when healing can begin.
Each Tarot Tapes volume also includes a bonus resource pack containing a curated set of patches, samples, or other music production tools that were created during the writing process for that volume.
